About Me
Profile Text 1:
Education - Teaching is my second career. My Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics from San Jose State University and my career in aerospace allow me to bring real-world science, engineering, and math to life. My diverse skills in conjunction with my Master of Arts in Education from University of Phoenix permit me to integrate relevant, hands-on learning. My career path allows me to increase students' interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Sharing and instilling the passion for learning in elementary children opens their eyes to vast career possibilities.

My Family - My husband, Richard, and I have three wonderful, adult children. All varsity athletes while attending Rocky Mountain High School. Our daughter, Cynthia, graduated from RMHS in 2007, the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2011 with a pre-med concentration and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, and the University of California-Berkeley Optometry Program as an Optometrist in 2015. She returned to Fort Collins to work at Vision Eyeland Super Optical on College Avenue. Our daughter, Erika, graduated from RMHS in 2011 and Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She played center for Mesa's basketball team. She plans to pursue a career as a physician's assistant. Our son, Michael, graduated from RMHS in 2015 and worked as an athletic trainer, ran hurdles, pole vaulted, and competed on relay teams. He attends FRCC and works as a Fitness Center Attendant. Michael is pursuing a college degree that prepares him for a medical career too. As a family, we support each other's goals and spend quality time together when we can--including our furry friend, Marley. He is a huge Mesa Mavericks basketball fan and welcomes us home at night.

Teaching Experience - The 2016-17 school year is my fifth year at Tavelli as a Science/Engineering Interventionist. Prior to arriving at Tavelli for my dream job, my K-12 teaching career afforded me many opportunities to develop collaborative relationships with teachers. I love creating, adapting, and personalizing my instruction to reach all my students. A favorite unit I created took the second grade Air & Weather unit into the realm of memorable by facilitating the design, manufacture, and flying of kites. Through experimentation, the children learned basic aerodynamics, collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking thus sparking their inquisitiveness. The students chose to discuss scientific theories and experiment with kites during their free time. The children's enthusiasm was contagious. I love inspiring learning and relish the results. I believe my teaching style stirs children's natural curiosity and desire to learn. Students' aha moments delight me! I also serve as Tavelli's Site Coordinator during the adoption of the Smithsonian Science Education Center's Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER) program, a teacher of the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Program (WASP) curriculum, a teacher envoy to the Wings Over the Rockies Teacher Flight Program, and Tavelli's Odyssey of the Mind Building Coordinator.
