About Me
This year will be my 19th year of teaching! I grew up in Vermont and attended the University of Vermont. I majored in Elementary Education. After graduation I left the beautiful Green Mountains for a new adventure in the mighty Rocky Mountains. I taught first grade at Colorado Visionary Academy in Parker, Colorado. Fort Collins was the next step in my Colorado adventure. I taught second and first grade at Putnam Elementary here in Fort Collins for many years. During that time at Putnam I earned my ESL endorsement and a Masters in Reading from UNC. In 2015 I was ready for a change in schooIs. I chose second grade at Tavelli and have found my new teaching home. I love teaching at Tavelli and I love second grade! Teaching is my passion and I love how it is always evolving. Each student is a gift to me. I learn as much from my students as they do from me. I am married to Nik Olsen. He works at CSU. We have two boys, Henry and Tate. They keep us very busy. We like to be outdoors and visit new places. I love to read and drink almond milk chai tea lattes when I get quiet moments.
My Classroom
About My Classroom:

I teach at the 2nd-grade level because I enjoy the independence, wonder, and love of learning that 2nd graders possess. Tavelli Elementary is a STEAM school, which compliments my teaching views that students need to be prepared with 21st century skills.  Integrating science, technology, engineering, art, and math with literacy into standards-based lessons is o for all students.  I feel the more engaged students become, the more they are motivated to take ownership of their learning.  I am a dedicated teacher who is committed to employing best practices when I teach and I maintain high academic, social, and behavioral expectations of my students. Building relationships with each student as an individual is the foundation that creates a love of learning in my classroom.  Students in my classroom are invested in their learning and know their individual personalities and learning styles are a valuable part of our caring classroom community.  Another important part of fostering student success is forming a partnership with clear communication between home and school.  I encourage parent involvement in the classroom and love to incorporate your talents and help and in the classroom.  "This classroom is a mistake making, laughter-sharing, independence building, brain stretching sort of place! Everyone matters!"  This quote is a good summary of my classroom.
